Hi everyone, I've made a new map named "Archipelag Sumary".

Full size image: http://img1.picload.org/image/ldoiplg/archipelagsumary.png

It's large 256 x 256 sea map for four players.
Recommended settings:
-single player mode: player on position 1 or 2
-multiplayer mode: 2 teams - position 1 & 2 vs. 3 & 4
Download link:
http://www.filedropper.com/archipelagsumary_1

Hope you'll enjoy it.

Looks like a cool map (how did you do the screenshot?) I will definitely have a look at your work - also
because I'm a bit curious why in singleplayer mode only position 1/2 are are recommended but in multiplayer
both positions play in the same team ;)

Edit: having a look at the map atm
The map looks really great, can't say something else - love the way objects are placed, every thing looks
intresting and natural etc. Some may would say that some coastal areas are a bit bald but, I guess it's okay.
I do not know why you only recommend position 1 and 2 for singleplayer, maybe because they have less gold and
space than 3/4 but - no idea^^ If this map would be balanced in multiplayer is also a hard question, I guess
that needs to be tested. It's just a bit sad that this small island in the south-west has nothing worth to
take it - maybe some mountains around that small lake would make that island worth an expedition since it
looks really cool. That large Island where no player is may also could use a second harbor spot since in
multiplayer and also using AI (in rttr) it could be nearly impossible to get this island before you defeat an
enemy (the can scout you and just attack before you can do anything since there is only one spot (I've seen no
other)). Last but not least - your border may should be at 0 area (looks like you were using the original
editor) so you wouldn't really see that border on your minimap but hey, I know that problem with endless maps.

Overall:
Design: 5/5
Objects: 5/5
Resources: 4/5
Players: 4/5
conclusion: I love this map and will test it tomorrow :) I may got some new information then

I'm glad you like it. I created this map, as well as the screenshot using standard map editor added to s2 gold edition.

Basically the whole map is divided to 5 regions (as shown below).

Players positions are placed in regions 1 and 2 (2 players in each area). Regions 3,4 and 5 at the beginning are uninhabited and designated to explore and conquer. You are right that the region 5 is practically wasteland, but in real life there are wastelands too, and you never know what you find while exploring (it was done on purpose). That's why every region has 2 harbor spots except this one (the area number 4 has 2 harbor spots also). The largest island is devided in two parts, because it's not possible to take control over the eastern part of the island without building harbor (or capturing enemy military buildings near your border), and it was done on purpose also. Otherwise players located in region 2 would easily take control over pivotal resources.
I recommended position 1 or 2 for single player because positions 3 and 4 are much closer to each other, so you would be forced to fight very soon (I forgot to add that it's better to set alliance computer vs. human in single player). Of course recommended doesn't mean that different settings are prohibited. You are welcome to test the map in any way and I will be pleased if you share your experiences and observations.

Have fun!

P.S The real challenge is to set inexhaustible mines ;)

Very nice map! Great job.

That is a really amazing seafaring map! It definitely took some time to create it using the standard S2 mapeditor, but I guess the time was well spent. Another question, just out of curiosity:

How were you able to place the harbour building sites using the S2 mapeditor?

I can't say whether the map is balanced or not, but I'm sure some people will definitely give it a try, both in singleplayer and even in multiplayer.

I'll most likely play it against the AI at some point this weekend, so stay tuned for some more feedback based on playing experience.

Okay some information of my game so far:
-You should at least play with inexhaustible granite mines (luckily I enabled this Addon)
-It is really impossible to pass this mountain area without help
-I started on Pos4 - it was easy to kill me enemy withouth having any problems but while I was doing so, an
enemy just landed on my harbor spot
-And then I had to wait ~ 400k GF until a seafight went well (first scouting the harbor, then attacking and
having luck, that an expl. exp. would scout that area before the new harbor was finished so I could attack)

Thanks for the positive reception of my work.

"How were you able to place the harbour building sites using the S2 mapeditor?"
Well, I wasn't able, so I just placed regular castle spots at the coast, and then used "coastal castle fix" tool contained in this application: http://settlers2.net/the-settlers-2/map-generators/

"I started on Pos4 (...)" That's why i recommended position 1 or 2 ;) I guess position 4 is the hardest for a single player.

"It is really impossible to pass this mountain area without help"
Actually it is possible, but only from the east to the west, in opposite direction it really is impossible.

I played this map in single player starting in position 1, with very low resources at the beginning, with charburner off and exhaustible mines, and I know that it's possible to defeat all the enemies and take control over 100% of lands. The key to the win is to conquer as many free lands and resources as possible, as quickly as possible, but I think it's nothing revealing for any experienced settlers player ;)

To set harborspots you need xasers mapeditor which you find in the mapeditor thread in this
forum. In the RttR-mapeditor press "h" and then click to the place where you want to place the
harbor. Works very good.

Juiced18 am 21.02.2014 00:32 #12402

I check the map with the RttR-editor. There is a frame of swampland around your map. Is this
right or have you forget to replace this with water?

He has placed Harbor spots - you don't need the RttR Editor, as far as I remember there are 3 Tools online
which could place harbor spots

I guess and thats right imo, this frame avoids infinite maps - only way in RttR atm.

I played ~1,2mioGF so far - lately I finally was able to scout, attack and scout again fast enough.
I don't think this is a "good" multiplayer map (if all players are playing at the same level) but maybe if
some inexperienced players and with inexhaustible mines it could be balanced.
My Game just crashed so I will try to save from replay and load that savegame but... I guess it won't help
much (I will upload my replay here if someone is interested in watching).

I guess you should add a "bug" here https://bugs.launchpad.net/s25rttr
For example like this: https://bugs.launchpad.net/s25rttr/+bug/1280596 and maybe, maqs or someone will add
this map to RttR by default (will be included in the download files)

Okay, the Replay goes async...

"I check the map with the RttR-editor. There is a frame of swampland around your map. Is this

I added this frame to prevent ships sail "out of the map". I'm not able to use RttR editor. I can turn it on, but it works very slow, and every time i wnat to change settings (for example size of the map) it turns off automatically.

"I guess you should add a "bug" here https://bugs.launchpad.net/s25rttr"
What is it all about?

Which version of the RttR-editor did you use? I know the problem when the editor turns off while changing settings. There was a bug with the settings-window. Xaser had released a new version a few weaks ago.

My newest map "Masuria" is ready.

full size image: http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/886564Masuria.png

Its 224 x 224 land map for 4 players. You can play it in multiplayer or single player mode.
In single player mode you can choice any player, but i reccomend to set alliance of all AI against player.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Playing this map has sense only when inexhaustible mines mode is on.

Have fun!!

Hi Guys,

Can you download the "Archipelag Sumary" maps, the link (http://www.filedropper.com/archipelagsumary_1) does not work.
This looks like a really great map.
Any chance you can re-upload it?

Thanks,
M

Name: Archipelag Sumary (added)
Means, just download the latest nightly build
and you'll find that map in the "sea" category
