Hi everybody,
I have an idea.
It is set up for military buildings. Each military building could have an option to set up required number of soldiers. For example fortress could have from 1 up to 9.
It means we do not have to disconnect military buildings from roads if we do not want to come soldiers over there. We could set up for example in the center of country or interior only one soldier in each building. We could train soldiers in the center of country or interior without changing basic military set up. Current set up causes me a lot of problems and requires of course precious time. It can be useful also for fighting with more enemies at the same time.
I really appreciate the latest PoC set up for buildings. I use it very often.
I will appreciate your opinions and comments.
I hope the idea will be interesting for you and possible to program it.

something like this?

every building calculates how many soldiers it wants anyways so setting up a slider or 2 buttons for more/less requested soldiers is easy.
So question: slider or just +/- buttons and info field for the current setting?

PoC am 10.02.2015 22:25 #13349

another question:
Probably: initial value = military setting?

now how many soldiers a building requests should be set by:

use whatever you set at the building
OR
use the minimum of building & general military setting

CrazyL am 11.02.2015 11:55 #13350

@DMM
I like your idea, that would be really useful!

@PoC
Using the military settings as initial condition sounds reasonable. After that, I'd favor the maximum of building and global setting, because if you suddenly decide to refill all your military buildings before an attack, you really don't want a fortress in the middle of it staying unguarded - just because low building settings supersede the higher global ones :D

By the way: What happens, when a military building changes it's status, e.g. from "inland" to "close to boarder"? Will that overwrite the building setting with the global one? If one uses the maximum, that wouldn't be necessary.

PoC,
I really appreciate your fast response.
You are right initial value could be the same as general military setting.
Manual settings of soldiers number in each military building could have priority comparing to  general military setting. If you once set up manually number of soldiers in military building then this set up could be fixed. It does not matter if the building is in interior or border area.
It could be useful to have one more button for default settings. If you push this “default” button then general military setting will have priority. It means manual setting will be canceled.
That is my point of view.

My proposition for this option:
-Every military building menu should have one simple button "custom settings"/"back to global settings" (or similar names) in building menu.
-Once you click on it you can use the slider or +/- buttons to determine the number of soldiers you want to have in this particular building.
-If you choose "custom settings" on the building should appear board with "C" letter (similar to "X" board for gold prohibition), so you can easy recognize which buildings use custom settings, and which don't.
-If you want the building back to standard military settings, press the button "back to global settings" (which replace "custom settings" in building menu when it's used), and "C" board disappears.
-Activating "custom settings" for a building could be also used for other settings, like regulations on soldiers strength (sending the strongest or the weakest soldiers from headquarters or warehouse in the first place) and coins (ordering exact amount of coins, similar to tool ordering in metalworks) .

What you think?

Edit: now i see my conception is almost the same as DMM's above. ;)

That's a really brilliant idea! Thanks to PoC for implementing this.

I think it can stay this way, although I'd like to see a "back to default" button (eventually next to the coin button?) so you can reset it easily if it isn't needed any more.

Zitat:
-Every military building menu should have one simple button "custom settings"/"back to global settings" (or similar names) in building menu.

To be honest, I disagree with the idea of a "custom settings" button though, because it would require an additional click each time you want to change the number of soldiers in a military building, so for convenience sake there should just be a "back to default" button.

Zitat:
-If you choose "custom settings" on the building should appear board with "C" letter (similar to "X" board for gold prohibition), so you can easy recognize which buildings use custom settings, and which don't.

That's a good idea, but it can just appear once you click on the +/- buttons in the building window. No need for a "custom settings" button as I have explained above.

PoC am 12.02.2015 00:59 #13354

so... no bar but 3 buttons: +, -, use global setting (probably upper center of the building window above the coins)

1 info field displaying the number of soldiers this building wants - maybe change the color of that number when the setting is not the global one.

not sure about the added visual when this is in use - someone will have to draw something or beg a talented artist to do it.

PabloNH am 12.02.2015 23:16 #13356

I'm not graphic designer, and i'm sure someone will draw it better but for the beginning this can be used:

Good design PabloNH,
Blue collor is perfect and letter C like Custom setting is clear as well.
I have proposal with + and -.
It could be +/- or + -.

Implemented the new addon.

todo:
-Someone has to get locations for the new indicator for each military building to avoid overlap with gold stop + custom settings indicators
-The indicator image seems to have some problems not sure what the problem is -> the indicator will NOT be added until this is fixed
-some testruns, it should reset to default on capture, should have no problems with destroy/save/load etc

Question:
Do you need/want a "visual setting" for this addon that updates instantly on click instead of delayed until the change actually registers?

PabloNH am 19.02.2015 14:20 #13360

I think i fixed the board's image, try this one: http://www.filedropper.com/tabc

Locations for Romans and Vikings (lower images has yellow pixel added in the upper left corner of the board's image). If you accept it i will do it similar for other nations.

PoC am 19.02.2015 17:38 #13361

blue on grey isnt much of a contrast - maybe a red c instead for visibilty?
Please list the x,y position of the new sign relative to the stop gold sign.

FloSoft am 19.02.2015 23:38 #13365

Großmeister
wouldnt it be better to have a common order of the signs? like X on top, C below
(and I agree with Poc that a red C would be better)

since the gold-stop coordinates are custom too, it should not be a problem changing them that the signs fit

Still waiting for my PC but I still think we should use symbols instead of letters - I'll make a sign with gears on it because it's
a custom setting and settings are symbolized by gears in settlers 2 :)

DMM am 21.02.2015 15:24 #13371

If a symbol is used for "visual setting" soldier set up for military buildings It could be symbol ">".

I like the "normal" gear more than a "C" or a "golden" gear - but thats just my opinion.

Spike,
is it any progress regarding "visual setting" soldier set up?

Well, I made my Icons, posted them, no reaction so... no idea.

PoC am 26.03.2015 01:54 #13397

code hasnt moved because I dont have the time.
current version works but I havent added the icon to the buildings (only tried the broken one from earlier in the thread and no one invested the time to write the new locations for all buildings & nations).

Spike am 26.03.2015 14:25 #13399

Im Ruhestand
Well, if there is a decision which icon we'll use, I may check those locations

Edit:

(I like the left version)
I just tested the addon and realised that the icon used was the store in icon which is kinda strange because you store out soldiers
so... I mad a new one ;) kinda

I like the buttons, both of them, but how would it work, you push the button and then choose how many soldiers you want to keep inside?
I also liked PoC's design, just simple + and - buttons.
Is it still in the work? Or is it already in the game and I missed it? ;)

You are right, you will able to set up number of soldiers in each military building by pressing + and
- buttons. There is also possibility to go back to default set up.
The addon is not ready yet. You can not used it in the game therefore.
There is missing only graphical interpretation on the building. We have a few possibilities and we
should choose which is the most suitable. You can get involved.

And actually, I don't know if like the idea of a second sign on the wall of military buildings to illustrate the custom setting. You can see it already by the number of flags waving on top of the house. Wouldn't that be enough?
