Hey everyone,

Just to give a head up, Version 0.0.1 of RttR launcher is here.

Bigger Picture Here

File only: HERE

(Please tell me if this is a correct way, or if the S2Demo files interfere in any legal way)

Launcher options:

- Play RttR (Through s25client.exe)
- Update Rttr (Through rttr.bat)
- Uninstal RttR (If it's gone by the installer I've made)
- Register (Sends you straight through "Register" on the website)
- Exit
- Settlers Freaks (Website Link)

To-Do List:

- Options
- News Feed
- Sounds
- Pointer
- Getting rid of that windows bar on top.
- Install (Getting file from server) / Uninstall dynamic buttons
       - In Install Fetches files and runs installs them.
       - In Uninstall, it runs uninstaller, easy.
- Cross-Platform (No clue anyone has any tips?)

Nice work, man, but the Update-button doesn't work, it always starts the game, and when you maximize the window, the backgound doesn't fit anymore, then you got 4-times the small background. And it would be cool, if you could add the RTTR-editor to the launcher.

and what S2 demo files???

The update button should have gone to RTTR.bat which was, to my understanding the update (only it give a nifty error that I don't know why. Although I know it automatically checks for the files when you update the game so the update button is redundant.

The RttR-Editor can put instead of the update button but the trouble is that the RttR Editor must be in the same file as the launcher and I have no idea if the files are conflicting between the game and the editor (I'll try it out and see)

There should be the files for the settlers 2 demo to work it out, like I said if this constitutes a legal problem please tell me so I can take this down and do another one without the files.

Now that I'm checking the package, I can't play it. Although its not the launchers fault.

I have all files in my S2 directory and everything is working so far.
But I still don't know where the S2 demo files are. Were they been installed with the RTTR-laucher?
And I don't know if thats a legal problem, you have to ask the people of BlueByte!
And what about the background of the launcher??

well,

the launcher looks kind of nice, but I think there's much work to do (so we can use it directly)

i.e:

- you/we aren't allowed to redistribute those demo files
but perhaps we are allowed redistribute the complete demo's/patches/etc in "original" state and the launcher copies the needed files out of these archives then on (first) launch.
perhaps even ask the user if he wants to copy the files from a settlers II gold or normal+mission cd or if it should download the demos etc and use that then.
  (that has to be checked)

- the source code of the launcher must be open and also under our license (otherwise I won't package it with rest of rttr)

- much bug testing and -correction has to be done

thanks for the tips FloSoft, I just started learning how to work with VB so it can take a while to work, but everything you said I'll eventually get around to those.

Its version 0.0.0.1 XD so its just a clue in on what I'm doing :D

hmm I don't think VB's working on MacOS, Linux etc. (Okay VB# perhaps via Mono)

But I think if the launcher's finished in an alpha state, we (I) could implement it in C++ to have it platform independent.

Yeah, I think the launcher is a really cool idea, nobody needs to visit the forum but will get all information needed

Picture with the ship we also can see in main menu of the game.
So here is no need to show it in Launcher window too.
I suggest to reduce window-size of the Launcher.
