For some reason, I get an 'Out of memory' error (on the console) on 2 systems, as soon as I click on any button in the main menu, with rev. 7780 and up. Sending the crash information also does not work, at least it seems that way (successful connection for sending the crash log can be seen in the console output, but the application crashes afterwards).

I tried clearing the RTTR folder in 'Saved Games' before starting and also tried starting s25client.exe with Administrator rights, but that did not help. Logs and DxDiags from both systems can be found here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2309215/logs.zip . However, the logs do not say much.

The Acer laptop has two video cards in it, the faster Radeon one was active, but the same error happened with the Intel one. The Dell laptop only has the intel video card, but the same error happens there. What could be going wrong here?

// also tried setting it to SDL instead of WinAPI manually via CONFIG.INI, but that didn't help either.

Ok, I was able to fix it the following way:

I copied the RTTR folder in 'Saved Games' from another PC, where RTTR already worked (and all data was extracted/converted there) to those systems, and now it works. Could it be that there is some error in the recent nightlies with the processing of the original Settlers II files?

Yes, there is definitely a problem with the conversion of the original Settlers II files with the recent nightlies. I'll make a bug report about this.

Bug report here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/s25rttr/+bug/930890 (includes console output during the file conversion).

Okay, I tried the same (deleted all my existing files (/gespeicherte spiele/Return to the roots) and all files of RttR (not the data/gfx folder) and ran the game. It started, without sound, I enabled sound and it worked. Strange problem then, I am not affected.

Hm, I tried it on 3 systems so far, same symptoms everywhere.

Same Problem here.

Yes, that's because you probably only copied the s25rttr install folder (where your original Settlers II files are also included), and not the Saved Games\RTTR folder as well, which means that RTTR had to convert the Settlers II files again, causing this error.

Btw. Kuzoku, could you add this as a comment to the Bugtracker entry as well? (I mean that you tried this on 2 systems with the same result.)

So far I was able to replicate this on 4 systems in total.

If I have the time, I'll try to find out after which revision this happens.

Oh, no, I meant adding a comment in the original bug report entry, which I already made: http://www.siedler25.org/index.php?com=forum&mod=forum&action=thread&id=968&start=-1#9521 ;)

Ok, I have now tested on one system:

r7800 works
r7811 crashes after the conversion, before the main menu comes up
r7814 crashes on first mouse click in menu (same for r7817 and r7824)

The converted SOUND.LST is indeed different between r7800 and higher releases. It is the same in r7800 and lower releases.

The systems were this error happened had Windows 7 32, Windows 7 64 and Windows Vista 32.

On the Win7 64 systems I tested with the i386 version of s25rttr in each case. I did one test with the x86_64 version of the recent nightly as well though, it failed also.

And you Only made a New Installation? Strange Problem...

Yes, in each case it was a new unpacked s25rttr folder, with the DATA and GFX folder copied over and the RTTR folder deleted from the Saved Games directory. It happens on very different systems under different Windows operating systems. The only common denominator are the original Settlers II files, which were the same in each case.

Fixed in the newest nightly from today (7839) (actually fixed in 7834 according to Flo) :). Haven't tested yet though.
