Hi all! I am sorry if I have opened a topic that already exists, but half of these forums are German, and I do not speak German, that's why I'm asking for your help in a few things.
First of all, my questions are about the original Settlers2, not about Rttr.

I have made a map and I succeeded in making ships in my own maps by replacing roman campaign mission. I have 2 problems though. I don't know how to edit the texts/mission instructions, I wanna make a custom campaign, but I don't know with what program is it possible to edit the MIS_000.ENG files? And how to make those text messages appear in my map? With what commands, etc?

I have another quiestion: How to make the computer players to also build harbors and go on an expedition? None of them do it...

I would be really grateful for the help!

You may visit http://www.settlers2.net - there should be a documentation.

You can't, at least I never heard of any way. You may use save games and place buildings (harbor/shipyard) but they will
not rebuild those.

Hello Spike! Thank you for your reply! I had checked the site long ago, but I have only found information there about how to edit the RTX files, not ENG files.

About the computer player: I asked it because in Settlers 2 demo the computer player actually does sailing.

No. It's just a savegame which is loaded.

Maybe... a simple editor or Hex-Editor, I have no idea.

Okay, then my last question is: How to use save games, or place buildings in a save game? (or i mean where do i find information about this) :P
Sorry for being a newb :P

I guess no where - just testing, I remember
I tested a bit, placed buildings etc but no
roads. It should be easy if you create a
savegame, change something and create an
other save game and then just check the
differences.

For example in save1 you have placed a
flag, in save2 not.

You also have to compare the correct files
(guess conti.dat oder something like that)

I may have a look at this today... but I
don't promise.

@Bambi

Hi there, you can find information on message-files (".ger" or ".eng"-files) on this board - check out this page. It's in german, though, I can only try to translate a bit to give you an overview. All mission-texts are adressed archives:

  • The first ten bytes contain the header (for detailed information, follow the link above)

  • Next you can find the offsets of your messages within the archive (in relation to the end of the header). The adress for message with index "0" comes first and so on. That index is the same that is used in the RTX-file!

Rem.: Even indices relate to mission texts, odd ones relate to hints in the menu.

  • Last but not least, you can find the messages themselves. Each is terminated by '0'

I hope that information helps :)

Edit: You might not need all that information, you can find documentation for a text-editor here - though I'm not sure where you can download it.
