Im Ruhestand
1 - Installation (Windows)

This part seems sometimes hard, but it's really not.

1.1 - Video Guide
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suy8Gj-M-bE

1.2 - Written Guide

  • Download the latest editor version ( http://www.le-softworks.com/s25edit.zip )

  • Unpack the s25edit.exe and the SDL.DLL to your RttR/SettlersII directory (overwrite the old SDL.DLL)

  • OR

  • Unpack the s25edit.exe and the SDL.DLL to any directory and copy the DATA and GFX folder of your Settlers II - Gold installation to
    that folder

  • Make sure you have a WORLDS folder (Same level as DATA or GFX)

1.3 - Known Problems
1.3.1 - I can't save my map
Please make sure you have created a WORLDS folder, if this folder doesn't exist, you can not save your maps.

1.3.2 - I saved the map, I can see the file but neither RttR nor Settlers II show this map
Please make sure you have added a proper filetype, .swd or .wld, you have to enter this extension each time you save your map.

1.3.3 - I quicksaved the map, loaded the *.swd/*.wld file but this is not the latest version
You have to use the quickload function in the editor. Quicksaved maps are saved as quicksave.wld, not overwriting your original file

2 - Shortcuts, Menus, etc.

2.1 - Shortcuts
B - Big Building
This shortcut planes the ground so you can build a big building.

This shortcut also removes the Harbor spot flag

H - Harbor Building
Same as B but also sets the Harbor spot flag

To remove the harbor spot flag use B

Q - Revert last Action(s) (not 100% working)
This shortcut reverts your last action(s) (not including players). Please note that the is no 100% chance this will work, especially if
you are using large sized brushes, edit large areas or work at map borders.

Shift - Reversed Action
This reverts some actions, therefor instead of "upper" you can "lower" land, instead of "place" player you can "remove" player. This
also includes resources.

Ctrl - Remove Object/Animal
This hotkey removes any gameobject or animal.

Alt -
P -

Im Ruhestand
6 - Seamapdesign

6.1 - Placing a working harbor spot
In order to add a harbor spot which can be used ingame, you have keep an eye on several things.

6.1.1 - General textures

This spot is totally correct and you would be able to reach it by ship or even attack the players HQ. But the player himself couln't
use that spot.

The reason is simple: A Harbor building is a big building, therefor it needs some space (just like any other big building) and
connecting the harbor with any road wouldbe impossible.

6.1.2 - Water

You may fix any problems connecting by adding more landmass.

But if you do it that way your harbor has no connection to any sea.

So you have to change the map a bit more.

And your harbor could finally work.

6.1.3 - Distances

Maybe you want to player to find the harbor spot really fast.

But you should always keep an eye on gameflow and player habits because it could happen...

...that a player cannot find any harbor spot, even if its there.

6.2 - Locations

If you place a harbor that way, you will always have a problem with seafights because this spot can be spotted by any transport ship
passing by.

Thats why you should "nest" your spots into bays or place some small island around those spots. And it also looks better!

Hallo Spike,

has there been any additional work on the S25Edit since 2015
and if so where can the most recent version be found?

In the version I have there is a vertical bar on the right hand
side - I couldn't make up what it's good for. When tipping on it two text
bars show up reading: Hexagon/Square and Cursor-Activity: static/random.

Could You provide an explanation of the function and use of that tool?

I appreciate your answer.

Im Ruhestand
Hexagon: The typical hexagon brush
Square: Squared brush (you need to enlarge the brush to see a difference)

Activity Static: just as it is
Activity Random: Randomly (every mouse move) disables/enables random nodes of the brush

Arrows Both: Draw both triangle directions
Arrows only up: only draw upward triangles
Arrows only down: only draw downward triangles
Arrows Question: Randomly draw either none, one or both (I prefer this one activity random)

The latest editor version is included in every rttr release
